Privacy Policy

Short version: Zenrecap records what you explicitly choose to share. Your recordings are stored in your private account. We don't sell your data, track your browsing, or share your content with third parties beyond what's needed to run the service.

1. Who we are

Zenrecap ("Zenrecap", "we", "us", "our") is a Chrome extension and web application developed and operated by Zenkoders (zenkoders.com). Our product is available at zenrecap.com.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email address and display name. We use this solely to identify your account and associate your recordings with you. We do not receive your Google password.

Recordings

When you start a recording, the extension captures:

Video and audio from your screen, browser tab, or window (whatever you explicitly select)
Audio from your microphone (if you enable it)
Video from your camera (if you enable it)

These recordings are uploaded to your private account on our servers (Supabase). You control who sees them via share links.

Automatically generated content

After upload, your recording is sent to third-party AI services (AssemblyAI for transcription, Anthropic Claude for summarisation) to generate transcripts, captions, chapters, and summaries. This processing is done on your behalf and the results are stored with your recording.

Usage data

We store anonymised view counts on shared recordings (how many times a share link was opened). We do not track individual viewer identities or browsing behaviour.

Extension local storage

The Chrome extension stores your preferences (selected camera/mic device, recording mode, countdown setting) in Chrome's local storage on your own device. This data never leaves your browser unless explicitly stated.

3. How we use your information

To provide the recording, upload, and sharing features of the service
To generate AI transcripts, captions, and summaries of your recordings
To authenticate you and keep your recording library private
To display view counts on your shared recordings
To respond to support requests

We do not use your data to train AI models, serve advertisements, or sell to third parties.

4. Data sharing & third parties

We share your data with the following categories of third parties only as needed to operate the service:

Supabase — cloud database and file storage for your recordings and account data
AssemblyAI — audio transcription service (receives your recording audio; governed by their privacy policy)
Anthropic — AI summarisation (receives your transcript text; governed by their privacy policy)
Vercel — web hosting for the zenrecap.com website
Google — sign-in via OAuth (we receive only your email and display name)

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any other party.

5. Share links & public access

Each recording has a unique, unguessable share token. If you share a link, anyone with that link can view only that specific recording. They cannot browse your other recordings or access your account. You can delete a recording at any time to revoke all access to it.

6. Data retention

Your recordings and account data are retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete individual recordings from your dashboard at any time. To delete your entire account and all associated data, contact us at hello@zenkoders.com and we will process the request within 30 days.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security practices:

All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
Recordings are stored in private Supabase Storage buckets with Row-Level Security enforced
Share tokens are cryptographically random UUIDs — they cannot be guessed by enumeration
Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth using Google OAuth — we never store your password

8. Children's privacy

Zenrecap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Chrome extension permissions

The Zenrecap extension requests the following permissions and uses them strictly as described:

tabCapture — to record the contents of the tab you select
activeTab — to inject the recording toolbar on the page you are recording
storage — to save your preferences and session locally in Chrome
scripting — to inject the toolbar and camera overlay on the active page
tabs — to identify the tab being recorded and show the share link when done
downloads — to offer a local download of your recording
offscreen — required by Chrome Manifest V3 to run the MediaRecorder in a background context during tab capture
identity — to authenticate you via Google Sign-In
host permissions (<all_urls>) — to show the floating recording toolbar on whatever page you choose to record; the extension cannot know this page in advance

The extension does not read, collect, or transmit any browsing history, page content, form data, cookies, or passwords.

10. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
Object to or restrict certain processing
Data portability (receive your data in a machine-readable format)

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via the email address associated with your account or via a notice in the extension.
